A man who tried to break into an ATM at a bank in San Francisco's Portola neighborhood was arrested early Friday after he tried to escape on nearby rooftops but instead fell through one of them, police said.
The suspect, whose name was not immediately released, tried to use a crowbar to break into an ATM at the Bank of America at 2485 San Bruno Ave., about 3:45 a.m., police said.
Officers responded to the scene and realized that the suspect had fled onto the roof, police said.
The man jumped from roof to roof, prompting police to request a San Francisco Fire Department ladder truck so that officers could climb up and look for the suspect, authorities said.
The man was arrested about 5 a.m. after officers realized that he had fallen through a weak spot of a nearby roof. He did not suffer serious injuries and was arrested.
