Media Noche: SF's New Cuban Spot

Media Noche, San Francisco’s next fancy-ish fast casual concept, has arrived, following in the increasingly prolific footsteps of restaurants like Little GemSouvlaDabba, and Barzotto. From owners Jessie Barker (Nopa, Tres) and Madelyn Markoe (Tacolicious, Tres, Boxing Room), Media Noche sets itself apart with a focus on the food of Cuba, filtered through the lens of Miami.

Those tropical vibes are immediately apparent in the space, which makes you feel sunny just looking at it. Hannah Collins (Flores, Barzotto, Beretta) designed the room, which is dominated by bright white, turquoise, and metallics, with all sorts of fun details tucked throughout, like a neon flamingo, metallic banana wallpaper in the bathroom, richly-tiled floor, and SF street artist fnnch’s fun flamingo mural out front. Music will further the beachy mission, with Latin music setting the tone.

The counter service menu — in full here, with photos of the food below — is headlined by the Miami’s favorite late night snack, the media noche, which is a hot, pressed Cubano with ham, pork, Swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard on brioche. Small plates like croquetas and yuca fries round it out the menu, with ice cream pops for dessert. Drinks are beer and wine, with a focus on sangria developed by the bar team at Wildhawk (which is just across the street).

Media Noche opens Thursday, March 9, and will be open Wednesday through Monday from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., eventually staying open until 12 a.m.
