Restaurant Coming Soon...in a year: Rice Paper Scissors Storefront

San Francisco is no stranger to restaurants that start as pop-ups, and the latest one to join that list is Rice Paper Scissors. The Vietnamese concept from Katie Kwan and Valerie Luu started six years ago, and has mostly been taking up weekly residence inside Mojo Bicycle Cafe since. But now the owners have found their own brick-and-mortar space, and are making their pop-up permanent.

Kwan and Luu are taking over 2598 Folsom St. (which used to be grocery store Delicateses La Plaza) for their flavorful plates of shaking beef, mushroom pho rolls, grilled pork, and more. The duo had been searching for the appropriate space for three years before settling on this one after making a connection with the landlord.

To help get the project off the ground, Kwan and Luu launched a Kickstarter, with the hopes of raising $35,000 by the end of March. The funds will go toward decorations and furnishings, and rewards include housemade Asian sauces, food at their pop-ups, catering for offices and parties and tickets to their opening party.

It’s been quite the ride for Rice Paper Scissors over the last six years, including pop-ups at least five locations and an appearance on Anthony Boudain’s “The Layover.” Now, the restaurant will enter its next chapter and should be open in about a year.
